“to furnish! provide! prepare! …. Young African Women with the intellectual or emotional resources and capabilities needed for leadership in Africa”

Moremi Initiative focuses on long-term development of women leaders who can help transform and change institutions that legitimize and perpetuate discrimination against women. It is an African initiative for African women by African women that draws on the skills and expertise of women and girls across the continent and diaspora.

Moremi Initiative’s programs are aimed at identifying, engaging and equipping young African women and girls with the skills, support and networks, required to lead and advance the rights and interests of African women and girls.

Moremi Initiative rests on four premises. First, that the long-term success of an organization, community, or society depends on good and inclusive leadership that leverages the potential and experience of all its human resources. Second, that the full and active participation of women in leadership is a pre-requisite for positive change and development in Africa. Third, that women leaders and professionals face particular traditional, structural, and systemic challenges as women for which they need extra skills and support to overcome. Finally, that most of the qualities, skills, and principles required for effective leadership can be acquired through learning and therefore must be taught.
